ESI Registration

Employer code under the ESI Act when the headcount and wage tests are met.

ESI registration covers employees’ medical and disability benefits. It generally applies to notified factories and establishments once you employ 10 or more persons drawing wages within the ceiling — the ceiling and the state notification both matter. We register the employer and the first set of employees, then you can move to monthly contribution filing.

Who this is for

  • Shops, factories and offices crossing the ESI threshold
  • Contractors who need an ESI code to raise invoices

Documents usually needed

  • PAN, address proof and licence or incorporation certificate
  • Employee list with wages and date of joining
  • Cancelled cheque and employer KYC

How Digital Filings handles it

  1. Confirm the establishment is in a notified area and over the threshold.
  2. File employer registration.
  3. Register employees and share the code letter.

Timeline

Often 3 to 10 working days when documents match.

Questions people ask

Do directors count?

It depends on whether they are employees drawing wages. We look at the actual relationship, not the designation alone.
