Import Export Code Registration

One-time IEC from DGFT, now issued against PAN.

An Importer Exporter Code is required to import or export goods for commercial purposes, with a few exemptions such as some personal shipments. DGFT issues it against your PAN, and the same PAN cannot hold two IECs. Digital Filings files the application, links the bank account and watches for the deficiency memo.

Who this is for

  • First-time exporters and importers
  • Amazon or other cross-border sellers
  • Manufacturers buying inputs from overseas

Documents usually needed

  • PAN and Aadhaar of the applicant or authorised signatory
  • Address proof
  • Cancelled cheque of the firm
  • DSC or Aadhaar e-sign, depending on the entity type

How Digital Filings handles it

  1. Create or use the DGFT profile.
  2. File IEC with bank and address proof.
  3. Download the e-IEC. Update it if DGFT asks for an annual confirmation.

Timeline

A complete Aadhaar-authenticated application is often issued within 1 to 3 working days.

Questions people ask

Does IEC expire?

The code itself is lifetime, but DGFT has required periodic updation. We tell you if your code is flagged for an update.
